About the role

Isembard is launching a new CNC machining center in the Wichita, Kansas area and seeks a hands-on CNC Programming and Machining Lead to establish its technical operations. Working alongside the factory owner and the franchise technical team, you will support equipment installation, build repeatable workflows, and program, set up, and operate advanced CNC equipment. This player-coach role combines precision machining with customer collaboration, quality oversight, and team development. You will translate engineering drawings into reliable machining processes while helping implement AS9100-aligned practices for aerospace and defense work. As production expands, the position is designed to develop into a production management role. This opportunity suits an experienced machinist who enjoys solving complex manufacturing problems, documenting effective processes, and building a high-performing shop from the ground up.

What you'll do

  • Support installation, maintenance, and calibration of 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machinery and related equipment.
  • Create CAM programs from engineering drawings and STEP files, then set up, prove out, and operate CNC mills and lathes.
  • Implement standardized workflows for machining, inspection, cleaning, and post-processing.
  • Manage tooling and fixtures, resolve shop-floor issues, and document repeatable technical solutions.
  • Provide manufacturing feedback to customers and address supplier or production nonconformances.
  • Help recruit, train, and supervise technical staff while maintaining quality and operational standards.

What you'll bring

  • At least four years of experience in a CNC machining environment.
  • Strong CNC programming, setup, operation, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience using CAM software such as hyperMILL or Mastercam.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances, and STEP files.
  • Understanding of precision inspection and quality practices, with readiness to implement AS9100 standards.
  • Supervisory experience and an engineering, manufacturing, or technical school credential preferred.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to help establish a new, advanced CNC machining facility.
  • Planned career progression toward production management as the shop grows.
  • Technical collaboration with a national franchise support team.
  • Hands-on access to modern 3-axis and 5-axis machining technology.
  • Leadership experience building workflows and developing a technical team.
