Entry-Level Data Scientist

About the role

Join Naval Nuclear Laboratory in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, as an Entry-Level Data Scientist supporting the Digital Strategic Development team. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and technology teams to improve instrumentation and control systems for U.S. Navy submarines and aircraft carriers. This role focuses on applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, model-based engineering, and automation to technical processes while supporting safe, reliable operations. Projects may include integrating AI models into software applications, evaluating emerging analysis methods, and developing documentation for technical execution. What you'll do

• Develop data-driven solutions that improve instrumentation and control system development.
• Support integration of AI and machine learning models into applications and workflows.
• Evaluate AI use cases, technical risks, mitigations, and emerging analysis methods.
• Prepare technical justifications, specifications, project plans, and procurement documentation.
• Develop process controls and procedures and coordinate assigned technical projects.

What you'll bring

• Bachelor's or master's degree in a related engineering or science field from an accredited institution.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to meet federal background investigation and classified-access requirements.
• Ability to pass required drug testing, including testing for marijuana under federal requirements.
• Python or C++ programming experience preferred; data science or computer engineering education desirable.
• Familiarity with AI/ML, LLM applications, on-premises systems, CI/CD, DevSecOps, or cybersecurity preferred.
• Strong communication, technical writing, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
